2-1-1 Specialist

Reports To: Director of Operations 

United Way of Northern Utah is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which serves Weber, Box Elder, and Morgan counties. Its mission is to unite people and organizations to build a healthy, stable, and well-educated community where individuals, families, and neighborhoods thrive.

The 2-1-1 Specialist will work to ensure that individuals and families in Weber, Box Elder and Morgan Counties have access to updated information and get connected to health and human resources. Guided by the United Way of Northern Utah (UWNU) Strategic Plan, the 2-1-1 Specialist will develop 2-1-1 partnership opportunities and help organizations more fully utilize the 2-1-1 information and referral services (phone, web, app, email, and text) to serve individuals and families in need. The 2-1-1 Specialist will work in close collaboration with United Way of Salt Lake (UWSL) and other United Ways in Utah to ensure statewide alignment and brand stewardship. 

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities to UWNU:

Build and strengthen partnerships in the community of Northern Utah around 2-1-1

Educate community, government, other agencies, and the general public about 2-1-1’s role and services through presentations, attending events, producing newsletters, and other means.

Update and maintain partner organization information for the area in the 2-1-1 resource database.

Develop relationships with municipalities, county departments, and other community-based organizations in order to disseminate information and bring awareness to the resources and connections of 2-1-1.

Attend meetings, conferences, and workshops related to 2-1-1 management in order to learn new information and to develop working relationships with other specialists.

Serve as 2-1-1’s Public Information Officer during times of local emergencies.

Link any person/family that calls or walks-in to resources needed.

Support UWNU events and initiatives, ie Day of Caring, Day of Action, Bright by Text, FamilyWize, etc.

Act as 2-1-1 Northern Utah liaisons for the Salt Lake 211 Utah call center.

Participate and Support the Northern Region Volunteers Active in Disaster (VOAD)

Oversee emergency food and shelter board that administers FEMA funds in Weber County.


Responsibilities to Statewide 211/UWSL:

Update all records for the region at least annually. Quarterly 95-100% of resources assigned to UWNU will be current.

Track the results of outreach. Keep track of specific details that outline impact of outreach efforts.

Support disaster response efforts within the state and nationally.

Attend and support 2-1-1 database, outreach, and Steering Council Meetings.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social or human services or communication field OR equivalent directly related experience

Knowledgeable about database functions

Familiarity with the functions of Health and Human Services agencies

Experience training and/or working with volunteers

Required Competencies:

Strong written and oral communication skills

Detail-oriented with the ability to plan, manage and follow through on multiple projects

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience using database programs.

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

High standards of professional ethics and conduct

Able to do limited in state and out of state travel, and occasionally work an evening or Saturday.

Preferred Qualifications:

2-1-1 and United Way experience 

Marketing and awareness campaign experience

Partnership building experience

Bi-lingual English/Spanish  

Wage:Competitive - based on experience and qualifications ($36,000 - $40,000) with competitive benefits package (health, dental, and 403B match of up to 10% after one year of employment)

Hours: Full-time exempt
