Description of Organization/Program: United Way of Northern Utah
Statement of the poverty-related problem or challenge to be addressed: This position will assist our United Way with capacity building to generate additional resources to support our annual Day of Caring initiative. It is our hope to bring in additional cash, in kind donations and volunteer support for projects that benefit low-income communities.
This position is part of the Resource Development team focusing on securing financial resources to support programs that benefit the health, education, and income of individuals and families in Northern Utah.
General description of project activities: In the past several years, our United Way has moved away from the traditional Day of Caring model of inviting community volunteers from the Northern Utah area to join local nonprofit agencies to participate in one-time service projects. This position will be instrumental in helping to reintroduce this strategy to broaden our reach and impact for our Day of Caring. This position will work with the Resource Development team to create a formal structure to operationalize our annual Day of Caring event to include more than one community service project.
Description of summer project activities:
Activity 1: Assist Resource Development team in updating systems and processes for the new Day of Caring engagement model.
Step 1: Research other UW’s in identifying best practices.
Step 2: Identify systems and processes for event planning.
Step 3: Create reference manual for Day of Caring event planning.
Activity 2: Assist Resource Development team in coordinating Day of Caring projects.
Step 1: Research and identify partner projects.
Step 2: Recruit potential partner projects.
Step 3: Assist with developing marketing materials to promote partner projects.
Step 4: Assist with activities and tasks to support partner projects.
Activity 3: Assist Resource Development team in volunteer recruitment efforts for identified Day of Caring projects.
Step 1: Research and identify volunteer prospects.
Step 2: Assist with developing marketing materials to recruit volunteers.
Step 3: Assist with activities and tasks to support volunteer relationship management.
- Documented processes for future event planning for Day of Caring events
- At least 8 individual projects will be promoted
- At least 200 volunteers will register for Day of Caring projects
- At least 5 corporate partners will engage their employees
Summer Associate Benefits 2021:
● Monthly Living Allowance: $1,116
● Upon completion of service: $345.80 Cash Stipend OR $1,311.11 Education Award to be used towards higher education tuition or school loans
● Holidays off:
○ Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day
○ Friday, July 23rd Pioneer Day
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma
