AmeriCorps VISTA Community Outreach & Early Childhood Engagement

Become an AmeriCorps VISTA at the United Way of Northern Utah.   AmeriCorps VISTA is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits for one year helping to eliminate poverty. In return for service, members receive a living allowance, health allowance, and other benefits. An AmeriCorps VISTA position is open in Ogden, Utah to help promote specific Early Childhood Education Programs through home visitations, volunteer recruitment.

VISTA is needed to start at the end of February, date TBA. The position is a full-year commitment.

Job Description:

  • Prepare monthly parenting curriculum and kindergarten readiness activities
  • Develop community outreach plan
  • Write grants to sustain programs
  • Coordinate community donations and events
  • Recruit, train and coordinate incoming volunteers
  • Conduct events

Position Requirements:

  • Full-time service for one year without another job
  • Cannot be a full-time student (since it is full-time work, this is too difficult)
  • Some college experience
  • At least 18 years of age
  • General office and computer skills
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook


  • Living Allowance ($12,000 per year, pre-taxes)
  • At the end of one year of service, the VISTA can choose an Education Award ($6,095) or End of Service Cash Stipend ($1,800)
  • Healthcare allowance (must have own insurance)
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Childcare assistance if eligible
  • Hours can count toward an internship
