Frozen Yogurt and Snakes: 2024's Volunteer Appreciation Event

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! United Way of Northern Utah could not achieve our mission, nor could our impact be as far reaching without the help of our numerous volunteers. We are so grateful for their time and commitment to our mission.

In 2023, 2,611 volunteers donated 14,889 hours of their time to support UWNU programs and volunteer events.

Here's a breakdown by program:

211 - 51 volunteers

Collective Impact - 27 volunteers

Learn With Playgroup - 40 volunteers

Year of Action (volunteer events such as Day of Caring) - 298 volunteers

Nonprofit Connection - 13 volunteers

Student Success - 1,834 volunteers

Weber CTC - 55 volunteers

Welcome Baby - 298 volunteers

To celebrate these amazing volunteers, we invited them to a birthday-themed Volunteer Appreciation Day last Saturday (4/27). Hosted by Ogden Nature Center and catered by Menchie's frozen yoghurt, 97 people joined us for 3 animal presentations and lots of fun.

Gina O'Brien, UWNU's Volunteer Connection Coordinator, had music blasting and a photo booth ready for families feeling the birthday spirit.

Inside the learning center, a member of the Ogden Nature Center staff gave 2 animal demonstrations. In the first, we all met Henry, an old, chill snake who curled around his handler's hand and stuck his tongue out at the children watching. We got to touch his soft skin before he headed back to his warm enclosure. Laser also made an appearance; Laser is a tortoise who was transported in a Laser Jet printer box when he was rescued, and thus gained his name. He's now around 30 years old and still going on strong. The second demonstration highlighted an adorable little owl.

We were so excited to see our volunteers and their families explore Ogden's hidden gem and enjoy some delicious frozen yogurt along the way!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS!
