Nonprofit Board Leadership Program
Project Blueprint is United Way Northern Utah’s nonprofit board training program, created to prepare individuals to serve confidently and effectively on nonprofit boards of directors. Through a series of 8 sessions, participants learn board governance, fundraising, committees, strategic planning, financial oversight, and roles and responsibilities of board members. Ideal for anyone who is or will serve on or with a nonprofit board.
About the Program
This unique program prepares emerging and current leaders for leadership roles on nonprofit and public sector boards and committees. Project Blueprint meets regularly for about two months of curriculum sessions, starting with a retreat and culminating in a graduation.

Program Topics
The program is offered in a cohort of 20 participants that are a cross section of industries in the community. The group meets one time per week for 8 weeks. Cost for the program is $185 and includes dinner each session. The schedule below includes dates. Times will be added once determined.
Topics include:
- Nonprofit Governance & Ethics – Board responsibilities, ethics, and decision-making.
- Board Effectiveness & Meetings – Best practices for running impactful board meetings and mastering Robert’s Rules.
- Strategic Thinking & Leadership – Interactive case studies to apply fiduciary, strategic, and generative governance modes.
- Business Planning & Process Optimization – Strategic planning tools and asset-based community development.
- Fundraising & Nonprofit Promotion – Fostering a culture of philanthropy, refine marketing strategies, and practice fundraising.
- Accounting & Finance for Nonprofits – Financial oversight, audits, and key sustainability metrics.
- Board Shadow Experience – Apply learned skills in real-world scenarios, culminating in a cohort reflection.
