Seager Memorial Clinic has provided 35 years of free medical care and medications for the underserved in our community. In 2023, they launched a capital campaign to raise $2.5 million to transform Ogden's former Family History Library into a leading-edge medical and dental clinic. This new home will enable them to care for the uninsured and underinsured for decades to come!
However, Seager Memorial Clinic had an annual operating budget of under $50,000 for many years because the free clinic is staffed by volunteer medical professionals. They had very little experience fundraising for large goals, such as $2.5 million.
To gain some expert fundraising advice, Seager Memorial Clinic reached out to the Nonprofit Connection at the United Way of Northern Utah. Nonprofit Connection supports local nonprofits to increase their capability and capacity by providing training and resources in the 11 critical domains.
Staff at Seager Memorial Clinic said: "Without a doubt, their support has been critical to the success of our fundraising efforts. The Nonprofit Connection encouraged us to apply for legislative funding to support our capital campaign. We didn't even know that was an option! Every step of the way they offered personalized guidance and were just one text or phone call away. They even came to the Utah State Capitol when we presented to the Social Services Appropriations Subcommittee just to offer support. I'm deeply proud that our legislative request for $750,000 was fully funded. It came at the very beginning of our capital campaign and created strong momentum as we approached foundations and donors with the capacity to make major gifts."
Even with that major milestone, the Nonprofit Connection stayed open as a resource for Seager Memorial Clinic. NPC offered one-on-one consulting on several important grants and letters to major donors at an affordable price.
As of April 2024, Seager Memorial Clinic has raised $2,303,900, over 90% of their goal!
