On May 10, 2024, AmeriCorps members from around the state gathered at Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City to celebrate another year accomplished. These AmeriCorps members served under the UWNU Student Success program, whose reach is state-wide. Online and in-person, 80 members were recognized for their outstanding service. What did they do? With the support of 1,983 volunteers, Student Success AmeriCorps members served 3,604 students in the 2023-2024 school year. Their one-on-one support to elementary and high school students around the state are invaluable.
During the Appreciation Event, there were 52 first-year members, 19 second-year members, 4 third-year members, and 5 fourth-year members. Among these, 4 members earned the lifetime achievement President's Volunteer Service Award. This award was founded by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, and it honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. To receive the President's Volunteer Service Award, an AmeriCorps member must serve 4,000+ hours. It's an incredible achievement and honor. Congratulations to our 4 members who were awarded this lifetime award!
All in all, it has been another successful school year supporting students in social-emotional learning, improving attendance, meeting basic needs, and achieving academic success. THANK YOU to our AmeriCorps members!
