Record-Breaking School Supply Drive Empowers Northern Utah Students for Success

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OGDEN, UTAH, August 22, 2024 – United Way of Northern Utah (UWNU) has set new milestones in
helping students across Northern Utah prepare for the new school year. By increasing their school supply
donation goal by 50%, they ensured that more students than ever would be equipped for success in the
classroom.

“We know that when a student walks into the classroom with the basic school supplies they need, it sets
them up for success so they can focus on learning,” said Tayler Campbell, UWNU Event Manager.

Despite the challenges many Northern Utah students face in accessing essential supplies, the local
community rallied to support their success. This year, UWNU has already surpassed its previous year's
distribution of 800 backpacks, with confidence they will reach their goal of 1,000 backpacks.

Backpacks were highlighted as one of the most needed items for students this year. Alongside backpacks,
the community donated $41,312.88 worth of school supplies, a staggering 71% increase from 2023.
“This has been our most successful back-to-school drive yet!” said Campbell. “Our community really
showed up—whether we were at Walmart, the Farmer’s Market, or reaching out to businesses, everyone
stepped up.”

One Corporate Partner of UWNU, Bank of Utah, hosted seven school supply drive locations, collecting
60 backpacks and $2,271.17 worth of in-kind donations.

“We were happy to answer the call to help students in our area,” said Cherie Hanson, SVP of Marketing
and Communications at Bank of Utah. “We, like United Way, believe every student deserves the
opportunity to reach their full potential, and we’re proud to help provide them with the tools they need to
succeed.”
