Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and the first thoughts that may come to mind is food, and more specifically the turkey. The meal itself is usually the focus, but the leftovers may be just as exciting. We wanted to see how long a turkey donation could go for an average Utah family, which is 3.5 people according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
A single person eats about 1-1.5lbs of turkey in one sitting (Food52) and the average size of turkey that most commonly purchased is 16lbs. All this means that if an average Utah family receives a 16lb turkey then it will last for roughly 10 individual meals or enough for the 3.5 person family to have three meals together.
Sandwiches, soups, salads, enchiladas, or a protein filled snack, turkey can be utilized in various, delicious ways to make it go even further. This holiday season give a family the peace of mind that they will have multiple meals.
