Ava and her daughter, 11-year-old Ella, attended Weber CTC’s Community Family Fun Night and received an activity kit. When they got home, Ava and Ella read each fact in the activity kit together. The first substance abuse statistic was about how kids can start drinking as early as 6th grade.

Ella said, "Mom... I'm going into 6th grade, and I don't drink alcohol!" She was baffled that kids her age actually drank grown-up drinks.

This was a grim realization for the family of how young some children are exposed to alcohol. Ava talked to Ella about the dangers of alcohol and some of their family members’ struggles with addiction. They used Weber CTC's activity kit to understand the dangers of substance use and tools to avoid it.

Ava is grateful to Weber CTC for providing communication tools to open the conversation about underage drinking at such a critical and sensitive time in her child’s life.
