DYAD READING TUTOR

Provide reading tutoring support during the school day at an Ogden elementary school (New Bridge, Odyssey, Lincoln, Shadow Valley, Wasatch, Heritage). This will include reading one-on-one with students using the DYAD reading method. See the summary of duties here. Volunteers for this position are required to volunteer at least two hours per week at the same consistent time and day during the school day. Volunteers are expected to commit to at least 1 school year of tutoring, unless otherwise discussed with Ogden School District or United Way of Northern Utah.

    WELCOME BABY

    Become a Welcome Baby Home Visitor: Welcome Baby is a free home visitation program where trained volunteer home visitors make monthly visits to parents of babies and toddlers in our community. During visits, home visitors discuss age-specific developmental information for children, parental engagement activities that focus on stage development, and positive parenting skills. We ask our volunteers to commit to at least six months of serving two or more families. Each family on a volunteer's caseload only requires about two hours each month.

     

    LITTLE NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARIES

    Become a caretaker: Help with the outside and inside upkeep of United Way of Northern Utah's little neighborhood libraries, including landscaping and cleaning.

    STUDENT SUCCESS

    Become a literacy tutor: Volunteer to read with students and help them improve their literacy skills. You will work one-on-one with students 1-2 times a week over the school year. Typically, you will have the same students so that you have the opportunity to develop a relationship with the student and help them to feel confident in their abilities to learn and grown.

    • Must pass a background check

    Become a mentor: Volunteer to mentor a student. You will work one-on-one with students 1-2 times a week to encourage them in their academic, behavioral, and social/emotional development. Typically, you will have the same students so that you have the opportunity to develop a relationship with the student and help them feel confident in their abilities to learn and grow.
